Today I successfully completed a manual regen while my truck was at my house, pretty impressive and scary at the same time. My engine cranked up to 2500 rpm and went to town fixing my emissions control system. Shortly after completion, I went for a ride and I had restored power. Current Truck: 2024 GMC Sierra Denali 2500 HD with retrax-pro The truck won’t give you any indication that it is starting a regen. If you have the DPF status screen enabled you can see it is getting full and one will start soon but there is no screen that pops up or anything and lets you know it started. 2017 F350 6.7L 4x4 FX4 SRW CCSB Lariat Ultimate. Tractor. RK37HC. My RK37HC now has 64 hours on it and I have yet to see a regen request. Several months back I seem to remember someone mentioning that theirs did a regen right at 50 hours when the first service was due. Just curious at what point other RK37 owners are seeing for having to start the regen process.
Drive it and don’t worry about it. If it is interrupted it will finish next time. Otherwise I can see it with my CTS2 monitor. I know most monitors will show regen status. Sometimes you can smell a hot smell but not always. You might see a slight fuel economy decrease. Best advice though is dont worry about it.
Many mechanics advise having your DPF cleaned every 6-9 months to keep it operating at optimal levels, though you may need to clean it more or less frequently depending on your driving habits. If your DPF is in danger of malfunctioning or wearing out, you should see a light on your dashboard, so for most people there’s no need to worry.

I love having the gauge in the instrument cluster that show the level of the DPF, as well as when it is actively in regen mode. I watched the first couple regen cycles and it happened to kick off when I expected, the filter was about half capacity, and I had hit the highway and held speed for about 15 minutes when it started regen. 20 or so
I get all sorts of kooky questions, loosely based in reality, on DPF regeneration. I have a 2018 Ford Transit DCiV two-litre. Even 80mph is only about 2000 rpm in 6th gear. Now a DPF requires, as I understand it, a decent flow of gas at a decent temperature to maintain a healthy state.
